What Our Drivers Love About Working For Barnes

We may be biased, but we think truck driving is a pretty great job! Our country relies heavily on the efforts of our drivers. Without them tirelessly travelling the country, the world would come to a standstill, which we saw a glimpse of during the height of lockdown and it wasn’t pretty.

Our drivers are valued members of our team, so we wanted to hear some of the reasons they love working in trucking and specifically trucking for us at Barnes. Here’s what they had to say:

The Open Road

“The freedom you get from being on the road really is one of the best things about the job. I enjoy taking control of my own career. Also, by driving up and down the country you get to see the beautiful sights the UK has to offer. We often forget just how wonderful the countryside really is.”

The Culture

“I would say the main thing would be the culture. Barnes really focuses on supporting the drivers. There is sadly often an attitude towards drivers which can be quite dismissive and negative. Drivers can often report feeling undervalued, or like they are treated as “just a number”, but if you get in the right place, trucking can be a wonderful community. It can provide you with a place to meet different people and build lasting relationships. Drivers can meet a lot of new people along the way including dispatchers, managers, fellow drivers, customers, and mechanics. It’s a great career for meeting new people and building great relationships.”

The Benefits

“One of the great benefits about being a member of the Barnes team would be that they pay for CPC training which can sometimes be quite expensive. They also pay a referral bonus when drivers refer their friends as well as providing free uniform.”

“I receive a lovely handwritten birthday card every year with a gift voucher. It’s a small gesture but it feels personal, and it means a lot to me. It makes me feel appreciated.”
